How do I Begin?

Most likely you've heard there are no shortcuts in the spiritual life. In my experience, that's true!

How to begin walking a Pagan path means accepting that there is not a simple answer, as each person comes with a particular set of expectations and a history that is uniquely their own. Of course, there are books that can be read, classes that can be taken, videos that can be viewed, but what connects with you?

What I believe holds true under the broad umbrella of Paganism, is that the learning of it is the DOING of it.

Is it difficult? Perhaps. Is it worth it? Absolutely.

The platitude, that the teacher arrives when the student is ready may work for some. For me? I sat in an orchard under an apple tree, closed my eyes, slowed my breathing, and listened. It took practice, but by paying attention, I heard intricacies in bird song and the tonal qualities of rustling grasses. I felt the shifting presence of breeze on my skin. I developed awareness.

Through the doing, I learned. I couldn't force it.

But the Land knew when I was ready.

I have come to believe that those whom the Ancient Ones recognize,

because they know we are seeking them,

they know we are seeking connection to the land,

they know we are seeking connection to the Deities of the land,

and where Deity resides in us,

in how we can reach out to them,

in how we experience them,

will transform our lives.

Blessed be.
