I can still hear those words as the child waved goodbye to her auntie one day sending her into the work-a-day world. I see that child as the Goddess herself reminding us of this season’s gift. Spring will soon be in the air and childlike exuberance is the divine energy near at hand. The movement from Imbolc to Ostara (Spring Equinox) is symbolized and energized on my altar.
At this time of the year, Mother Nature reveals new life bursting forth through the ground. Here in the Arizona desert wildflowers bloom overnight, spreading an irregular blanket of color across the land. For many years I have experienced the awe and wonder of this beauty, but it wasn’t until I began to study the ancient Wheel of the Year that I realized something very important. Creating a magical life or bringing a spark of inspiration into manifestation requires imagination and action in right timing. In springtime, Mother Nature invites us to move from awe into action with the wonder and playful imaginings of a child.
Some of us have not only forgotten to take the time to play, in some cases we never really learned how. Thus, this step in the magical process is missed and we jump into the DOing without allowing time for our imagination to really explore the options at hand. Of course, the inverse can happen when we are stuck in play by attempting to keep everything fun and childlike all the time. “What if?” is the question from the Goddess of Springtime. The freedom to play with ideas without the responsibility of knowing the “how to” is where true childlike imagination flows.
Mother Nature holds the keys to each step in the magical process. She offers them to us each and every year. As each season turns, it prepares the way for the next. At the Spring Equinox, imagination touches my spark of inspiration which has been wrapped in love. I daydream numerous ways that my bright idea could “playout” in the world. I know it is going to be wonderful, but I am allowing it to roll around a bit gathering some inspirational energy as I daydream with the mind and heart of a child. It could look like THIS – or – maybe THIS! I try some ideas out to get a feel for which path I will take when the time comes to dig into making something happen.
At this time of the year the scale slowly tilts toward more outward expression and DOing. Allow the Goddess of Springtime be the child within you. Listen for Her words ringing in your ear saying, “Don’t forget to play!”
